If you are parents with a young child who is having difficulty acquiring reading skills, I can help.
Reading problems can stem from an assortment of reasons, both organic and environmental. As a qualified reading tutor I will evaluate your child and develop a program specific to his or her needs.
First I use the CTOPP, the Comprehensive Test Of Phonological Processing. This tool will reveal weakness in phonological awareness and rapid naming, both of which are very predictive of reading problems. After that I use the Gallistell-Ellis Test of Coding Skills to determine exactly which phonemes your child is having trouble with.
How a Reading Tutor Can Help
As your child’s reading tutor, I will develop a program specific to your child’s needs. I use a wide variety of materials and games designed to keep our sessions interesting and fun. I provide all materials at no extra cost to you. Each year I attend the NYC Dyslexia/Everyone Reading Conference to keep abreast of new techniques and resources available on the market.
In the public sector my training includes 25 years of early childhood classroom teaching, followed by 10 years as an elementary school librarian. In the last 11 years I’ve received certificates of training in Sounds in Motion, PAF, Wilson, IMSE Orton-Gillingham Initial and Advanced Continuum, and Great Leaps. I continue to work two days a week as the reading specialist at PS 10 in Brooklyn, as well as maintaining an active private practice as a reading specialist and tutor.
I am really good at what I do, so, if you have a child who is having difficulty acquiring reading skills…I CAN HELP!
